Using an iPad: Basics for Beginners

Tablets are portable touchscreen devices ideal for browsing apps, and communication. This guide covers basic use for iPads and Windows tablets.

iPad Basics

  1. Getting Started
  • Turn on with the top button.
  • Follow setup prompts (Wi-Fi, Apple ID, settings).
  1. Home Screen & Navigation
  • Tap icons to open apps.
  • Swipe up (or press Home button) to return to the main screen.
  1. App Store
  • Download apps using the App Store.
  • Requires Apple ID sign-in.
  1. Web & Media
  • ​​​​​​​Safari is the default browser.
  • Use the Camera and Photos app for pictures and videos.
  1. Settings
  • ​​​​​​​Adjust W-Fi, brightness, and sound.
  • Update software under Settings > General.

Windows Tablet Basics (e.g., Surface)

  • Power on using the top or side button.
  • Sign in with a Microsoft account.

  • Tap the Start icon for apps and settings.
  • Swipe from the right for notifications and quick settings.
